::: Remington ::: Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington newborn photography

Oh this little guy <3

He was *so* wakeful for his session… no fuss, just quiet and alert and so very handsome… Wise eyes, for sure.

And yes, I sneaked a belly shot in there…a  little before and after of Remy and his sister Natalie, who is quite possibly the best behaved toddler ever 🙂

without further ado…

a mini-blog ::: and a mentoring announcement :::

UPDATE: 1:1 dates are now full through May and I am not booking as far out as June yet as I don’t have summer plans solidified. If you are interested in a 1:2/3 date in April or May, be sure to add your self to the group linked below and shout out on there! January-March are totally full for mentoring.

Ahhhhh…. with the holidays at an end, kids home from school, and productivity at an all-time low, I was debating posting my 2014 goals here,  in detail, for the world to see.  Nothing scares your procrastinating, childlike inner self into submission like public accountability right?

But at this exact moment, the idea of even listing alllll the goals I have for my next-year self seems daunting. So, instead, I am going to try to check one item off my list, and that is to answer all the email inquiries I have for 1:1 or small group mentoring in one fell swoop.

Here’s the deal. If you want to come see me for 1:1 -3 mentoring, do it.  You don’t need a date from me. Just email me that you want to make it happen, and we’ll pick a date that works for both of us. You don’t need to rent a car, I’ll pick you up from the airport. If I don’t have family staying in my guest room and you aren’t certifiably insane, you can probably even stay here. No guarantees on sleeping in though, because Veda has an internal alarm that goes off when she senses someone *really* needs to sleep in.

Group workshops here in the Portland metro area: none planned.

Group workshops everywhere else: still in the process of nailing down host studios.  Because it’s not the easiest to travel ALLLL the way across the country with my lil’ Veda, there will be lots more West coast and mid-country places than East coast.  I’m thinking 3 or 4 days total, and for personal reasons most of them will probably be in the spring and fall.  Again, if  you have a non-home, natural light studio that can fit 5 attendees + models comfortably, let me know! Places that scream “perfect fit” haven’t been all that common in my inbox…so if you think it might work, email me at hello@erintolephotography.com

so without further ado, here’s the info:

My 1:1 price has actually gone down some for 2014 because frankly, I’m tired of sitting in a tiny plane seat with Veda while she yanks the hair of the poor soul in front of us and bounces up and down on the tray table. I’d rather just stick close to home until she becomes more reasonable.

the 1:3 price might seem low to those who have attended my workshops (which are $1500 for a 5 person class)…but again, see above. 😉 If you’re interested in coming to me and sharing a day (1:1 or 1:2) add yourself to this FACEBOOK GROUP to find other people who might be able to come and share with you!

I am not currently mentoring those who reside within a 100 mile radius of zip code 98683

I do not currently offer online editing classes (but I do in person for every workshop)

Attendees always get all my digital products for free before they’re released +  access to a very active, super supportive small Facebook group of past workshop ladies who are pretty flippin’ awesome.

Date becomes set when I get the 50% non refundable deposit !MENTOR

if you have any other questions, shoot me an email via the contact tab.

And because no post is complete without photos, here is one of the workshop models from Phoenix last month, Adalynn 🙂

Going to blog the outdoor portion of Phoenix next!

…: mini sessions and a not-so-mini blog :…. Portland Oregon baby photographers

Fact: I have made at least 4 Facebook “flyers” for mini sessions in the past year, and just could not get up the gumption to post them.  I loved the idea of photographing lots of sweet babies in a day, but thought for sure that something would go massively amiss and I would find myself up a certain well-known creek with no paddle.

So I decided if I was going to do mini sessions, I was going to do them on my own terms.  I have no desire to photograph babies in frilly tutus and patent leather shoes.  I love their soft bare skin and the earthiness of their plain baby selves.  I got some flack from other photographers on the first post, saying that if families want their babes dressed to the nines, that it was my job as a photographer to do it and not put stipulations on the sessions…. My response was: by all means, get on your Christmas smock and have professional photos! I just don’t want to be the one to do it! 🙂

Ultimately, I want clients who share my vision and I think all of these mamas were more than happy to have their babies sporting these lovely items, so soft and luxurious, it would never make sense for a parent to buy a pair of 75$ angora or cashmere shorts… but me… I may or may  not have an addiction to collecting these things!  (thank you SO much Persnickety’s Knits and Zoe and Oliver ! )  No last minute frantic shopping for outfits, no needing to come up with “ideas” for a shoot.  All my props, my hats and headbands are there at their disposal… literally hundreds and hundreds of them.  I think it takes the pressure off and makes it fun again! These 20 minute sessions were the perfect length of time, particularly for the littler babies who don’t have the stamina for the usual hour long session- there are several 4 month olds down there and although it’s not typically an age I’d suggest scheduling photos for, I think they turned out so stinking cute!

Long story short, I ADORED these mini sessions. The second the door closed after the last shoot ended, I knew right away this was something I’m going to make a part of my business. It’s a great way to see those sweet newborns I cuddled months ago again. Bonus: if you had your newborn photos taken by me, or were a workshop model, the sessions are discounted ($295 vs $375)  For those who want the whole family involved, I do book very limited family sessions in the summer months, but the weather is just too unpredictable here to do them consistently during the rainy season (you know, that 9 month period, LOL).

I will be doing these again probably in February, and again outside once it warms up in the spring and summer!  I hope to see some new faces, as well as some repeats.  The babes from the session ranged in age from 7 weeks to 16 months.  Right around walking age is about the maximum for these types of shoots, because my little sets just aren’t big enough for a baby who can run away…

It was hard to choose only 5 favorites for each kiddo…but here they are in no particular order 🙂

A friend teased me recently that my business name should be “50 shades of beige”  … as much as I wanted to say “No, not me!” … I think at this point I have to embrace it.

my style= soft + neutral + earthy + warm + organic

and sometimes beige <3

Ellie is one of the sweetest I’ve photographed in a while. Her mama knit her the dark purple-y blue items and I adore them…

…: Titus James :… Portland Oregon newborn photographers

When I heard Nikki from the radio station Live 95.5 was pregnant…. I knew I had to photograph that baby.

So, here  is Titus James in all of his extra-cute glory <3

I can’t even express what truly awesome people Nikki and James are, and how head over heels they are for baby Titus…  They take “nice” to a whole new level and it was fun to meet someone who I listened to daily as I took my kindergartener to school last year.  Maybe borderline creepy since she *probably* didn’t feel like she knew me, too.  I’m not one for awkward silences, and since I already knew N & J were totally down to earth, it really felt like photographing a friend’s baby.  Her 30 hour labor  and 5 failed epidurals were rewarded with absolute perfection, dontcha think?

Can’t wait to see this little guy grow up and hear about Nikki and James’ travels through parenthood over the airwaves- although I’m pretty sure they already rock at it.

…: Aven :… newborn photographers, portland OR

ahhhhh

Less than 2 years ago, I flew to Little Rock, Arkansas to photograph this beautiful baby girl’s older brother, Cooper…

He did not sleep his entire session.  The entire day, for that matter. It got to the point where it was just comical, ha! I went into Aven’s newborn session wondering if perhaps it would be hereditary; but nope! She slept like an absolute dream, and also let me nom her several times over the 3 days I was there.  I photographed Aven on Saturday, and then her mama was kind enough to let me overrun her  gorgeous home with workshop gals (she has glorious natural light!) on Sunday… I’ll blog that next 🙂

Arkansas. Let me say.  In my head I just didn’t think of it was being *that hot*.  Well, it was, and then some. And being outside was like walking into a hot sauna. Only with bugs which are roughly the size of pterodactyls and make noises like I can not even believe. I obviously haven’t spent enough time in the south to find these things mundane.  You can hear the sound of the bugs in the video I’m posting at the end (which was taken with my iPhone and posted to Instagram, erin_t27)  🙂

For those of you who don’t follow me regularly, the older baby in the videos is my 13 month old, Veda.  She’s my lil’ sidekick on my travels!

…: just a peach :… Portland Oregon pregnancy photography

I almost feel guilty posting these photos.  The  good natured chemistry between these two was crazy… not the “can’t keep my hands off you” icky smitten kind of way, but the good kind.  The kind that runs deep.  A monkey could have photographed them and it would still look adorable.

Bethany and Ted are childhood friends who traveled the world together as bloggers (check out their travels here!) before settling down in their home state 🙂

B: “I knew by age 9 I wanted to marry him but he didn’t know it until 19”

Can you imagine knowing your partner for life since you were 7 years old? And yet, Ted glowed sometimes just as brightly as pregnant Bethany as he watched her.  I’m not sure I’ve ever heard a man say “you look so pretty” and mean it as much as I could tell he did.   They are the stuff warm fuzzies are made of.

Let’s hope this September heat wave holds out so we can take their “little peach” back to the orchard…

….: feeling lucky :…. Portland OR newborn photographer Vancouver WA newborn photographer

Everyone gets tired (or maybe just overwhelmed?) with their job sometimes, right?  No matter how great it is, it’s still work.  It’s a demand, it creates pressure…

But I feel so incredibly lucky.   Because after just a few days of any sort of “break”… I sit down and it’s like my fingers are burning to shoot again.  I want to meet that little baby you haven’t met yet, watch them dream, watch your heart melt as you sit on my couch and watch them be photographed.  I want to hear the story of your delivery, feel that fresh baby skin, and create memories of those first few days because they are oh so precious and oh so fleeting.

These photos may seem “jumbled” to the average viewer as they are of 4 different babies.  They were taken during a workshop where I was teaching other photographers how to photograph new babies,  but they’re still grouped according to who is who 🙂  Follow me on Facebook to be on the lookout for model calls (free photos!) for when I am teaching others- they happen a few times a year 🙂

Now, meet Logan, Lucinda, Zoe, and Nathan <3

….: be good to them :…. Portland Oregon newborn photography

I know that I don’t blog like I used to, and that’s a bit sad 🙁 But, I’m just too busy photographing everyone’s babies and talking to myself on facebook to blog every session.  I’ve been mentoring other photographers and have traveled with lil’ Veda on my hip across the country and back multiple times since her birth, and I still find myself growing, changing, evolving.  What I loathed at the beginning of my career, I now look forward to more than just about anything else- parent shots.  🙂   I am just now after years of this profession finding my groove with them and really relishing the teeny-tininess of these little people in the arms of the ones who made them.   I’m convinced the babies love it too because they always smile for them!

Almost every email inquiry I get says “we’d like some photos of us with our baby, can you do that?”  and I am reminded yet again of how I have literally ZERO parent/babe shots up on here. And that deplorable. And pathetic on my part, because I really am loving them lately and urge all my mamas and dads to let me snap a few while you’re in my studio.  I don’t bite (although, after being in a 90 degree room molding your baby for hours, I probably don’t smell good) … so … as a reminder,

here you go 🙂

and ok…this isn’t a parent shot. It’s Jude’s 10 year old sister Bianca and this photo melts. my. heart…. so I just had to toss it in for good measure.  It kinda goes, right? 🙂

…Savannah… Portland OR and Vancouver WA newborn photographer

I haven’t uploaded an actual client blog in forever.

However I realize that it’s important for potential clients/parents to see not just one or two images of a certain baby but to get a feel for what a whole gallery looks like.  I’m sure lots of parents are overwhelmed when they’re shopping around for a photographer.  Newborn photography is to my mind, a lot like wedding photography. There’s no do-overs. No second chances. Three weeks from birth, your baby will be a totally new little person than the days old, cord stump rocking, curly, flaky-skinned, fuzzy armed thing who enters my studio.  And no matter how many photos you take in the future, or plan to take yourself when you get around to it, you can’t get that time back.   I’m not saying this as a photographer to a client, but as one momma who has been there and done that….Oh, how they grow so fast.  It’s cruel, I think that ‘babydom’ lasts only a year.

Savannah- 4 days.
