…: Another Sky :… West Linn Children’s photography

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields –
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!  – Emily Dickinson

I don’t know why but I just *love* this session…  I always say 6 months is my favorite age for baby photos and meeting Lundyn again really solidified by feelings on that 😉

Plus, her mama is like the coolest chick ever and every time we call or text, we end up chatting for way too long about who in the heck knows what !

I didn’t think this little miss could possibly be any more beautiful than she was for her newborn photos, but she proved me wrong, completely.

Family and friends, enjoy!

…: Welcome, sweet Violet :… Vancouver WA, birth photographer

There’s so much to say about this family.

How wonderful, warm, and FUNNY they both are.  Basically acquaintances, I really got to “know” Jen and Rocky while sitting in the pre-op triage room the morning they chose to let me photograph the birth of their second and last little one, Violet.

I feel blessed to have been there (as I always do) but even more blessed to get to know this family better and watch their babies grow.

I see a lot of kids meet their siblings for the first time…often times to mixed reviews 😉

Big brother Cole was a little weirded out by mom being in that large funky hospital bed for about 45 seconds.

And then he realized what it was she was holding.

I had to choke back tears as I watched him not-so-carefully unwrap baby Violet and examine her like  the priceless gift that she is. You could see the mesmerized look on his face grow as he studied her tiny hands and soft hair; I think I could have watched it 100 times and I’d still be deeply moved every time.

🙂

Enjoy

…: Audrey + Solomon…and baby surprise :… Portland OR maternity photographers

So where to begin with this one…

First off, a client very rarely makes me laugh out loud in an inquiry email, but the beautiful Audrey sure did.

Pregnancy is such a strange thing.  It’s really hard for a lot of women (myself very , VERY much included) to feel like themselves while simultaneously sporting a new beach ball sized appendage.  When you’re living it, those 40 weeks might as well be 400.  But then one day you wake up and your baby is no longer a baby and you can barely remember what it’s like to get up to pee 8 times in one night and waddle around in a Target with a huge pregnant belly.

It takes a lot of trust to let go and let a photographer embrace this temporary vessel that creates new life.   It is a job I don’t take lightly.

And when Audrey said “my son is really photogenic” I sez to myself “Ah, whose kids aren’t .   And then I met Solomon.  And decided that I have never met a little boy who the camera loved more.  You read that right; it’s not that he loves the camera.  He’s kinda nonchalant about the whole deal.  But my, does the camera love him.

Audrey, friends and family,  hope you enjoy and see you soon!

One year sessions can be hard. Lots of times, baby is only smiling when physically touching mom. Understandable, right? Moms are pretty cool, after all.

If only you knew the ridiculous things one has to do to get a 1 year old to look at you 🙂

PS. I can take photos while whistling and doing jumping  jacks. No. Really.

…: Anna + Nick :…

I’m not a wedding photographer, really.

I usually don’t book weddings unless I connect with a couple and a vision on an almost “we-could-be-friends” sort of way.  Babies are my thing, ya know?

But there’s a certain type of mentality, a love felt between a couple that I just can’t resist.  I felt that from Anna the first time she emailed me.

I have a whole philosophy about weddings and the photographing of them, but I’ll spare you that. Know that there are a LOT of great shots of the whole wedding party, portraits of guests and all that other good stuff.  But if there is one thing that hits home with me about weddings it’s that ultimately, this day is about the couple.

Anna and Nick, I so enjoyed being there on your big day. Thank you for having me, even if I didn’t get to eat the shortcake 🙂
